Tour 5: Kelmscott Manor & Cotswold Lions
Without our sheep (called Cotswold Lions)
this area would have been a very much poorer place. Starting at Kelmscott Manor we see the home of William Morris,
co-founder of the arts and crafts movement. We then travel to Filkins Cotswold Wool Heritage Centre to see weavers
still working in a traditional mill. On to Fairford Church with its 28 medieval
stained glass windows, through the stunning Coln Valley to Bibury. The much photographed Arlington Row was built as monastic
wool barns. We could call at Chedworth Roman Villa ©180 - 350 AD, possibly the finest in England, and on to Northleach with its very fine wool church. Finally we
pass through the lovely Cotswold lanes and antique villages to Burford. So much beauty in just one day…..and
then more.
NB: Kelmscott has limited
opening times.
